Guide to New Green Technology
Bio-energy - Biomass derived from plant material and animal residues / wastes. Can be used to generate electricity and / or heat, and to fuel vehicles. Is called the energy bio-energy. With the burden of biomass available for energy purposes, such as straw and crop residues, especially for the production of energy crops grown willow, rape seed oil and waste from various sources, including food production. Natural gas that will determine the best way energy can be recovered from them.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) - Carbon dioxide contributes about 60% of the potential impact of global warming man-made emissions of greenhouse gases in the world. So, not surprisingly, that this global enemy no.1. With the so-called burning-oil fuel oil, gas, coal - release CO2 and improve concentration in the atmosphere.
Carbon Trust - This is the independent, not-for-profit company set up by the government with the support of the efforts to promote and encourage the development of low carbon technology. His role is to support UK businesses in reducing carbon emissions through funding, support, technology and innovation by encouraging practices that work better.
Combined cycle gas turbines - is using gas and steam turbine plant in only one to produce electricity with high conversion efficiency and relatively low emissions.
Combined heat and power (CHP) - CHP is the simultaneous generation of usable heat and electricity in one process, so that discarding less waste from conventional generation.
Standard eligible home - This is set by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) and Home Standard is a decent minimum standard that all social housing in the UK must be achieved in 2010. A decent home is air and weather tight, warm and has modern facilities.
Energy Saving Trust (EST) - The EST is a not-for-profit organization set up and funded largely by the government to manage a number of programs to improve energy efficiency, especially in the domestic sector.
Fuel cells - fuel cells create electricity from hydrogen and air, with the only water comes out. Potential applications include stationary power generation, transport (replacing internal combustion engine) and portable power (replace battery).
Fuel poverty - the usual definition of fuel is one of the poor households need to spend more than 10% of household income to achieve satisfactory heating regime (21 ° C in the living room and 18 ° C in other occupied rooms)
Greenhouse gases - gases which is the one that contributes to global warming. The most important greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.
Source of geothermal pumps (GSHP) - Ground source heat pumps do they do what they say, they extract heat from the earth through the circulating water (or other fluid) through pipes buried in soil in the trenches or vertical boreholes. Pipe in the extract from the geothermal heat Exchanger and the pump, which extracts heat from the liquid. The compression cycle to work (also used in the refrigerator) and then increase the temperature to supply hot water to buildings.
